O’Donoghue Cup

Listry 0-13 Kilcummin 2-20

Our seniors qualified to play Dr Crokes in the Quarter-Finals courtesy of this First Round victory over a Listry team that were short a number of their influential players. However our players went about their task from the off and put a number of good moves together that resulted in some fine scores. Goals from Kieran Murphy (first-half) and Kevin Gorman (second-half) complimented good point taking throughout. Sean O’Leary making his senior debut showed his class throughout, Kieran Murphy was a major influence while Daniel O Leary, Noel Duggan and Kevin McCarthy also impressed.

Team: Brendan Kealy, Damien O Leary, Donal Maher, Daniel Moynihan, Sean O’Leary, Chris O’Leary, Mikey O’Shea, Kieran Murphy, Kevin Gorman, Matt Keane, Kevin McCarthy, Noel Duggan, Oscar O’Connor, Shane McSweeney, Daniel O’Leary Subs used: Kelvin Teahan, William Maher, Ian Devane and Thomas O’Connor.

We now await this weekend’s County Championship Semi-Final between Kerins O’Rahillys and South Kerry to determine our next fixture. If O’Rahillys lose we play them in a relegation play-off as a curtain raiser to the County Final but if they win we are automatically relegated to Intermediate status for 2018.

Under 14 East Kerry Division 2 Champions

Well done to the Kilcummin U14 team who turned in a fantastic performance in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday 22nd July to record a 5-18 to 5-13 win over Dr. Crokes in the East Kerry Division 2 league final. On a dry evening with perfect conditions, the standard of football was high with many of our young team making their stadium debut.

Kilcummin opened brightly and kicked five excellent points on the trot. However, after recording a few wides, Crokes replied with 1-1. The sides swapped goals but Kilcummin finished the half in style to head to the dressing room with a well-deserved lead of 3-13 to 2-7. That lead was reduced dramatically on the restart with Crokes scoring two quick goals, but again our boys responded and found the net at the other end. Kilcummin then held the edge from there to the end, and playing some great free-flowing football they went on a record a deserved five point win.

Credit Union Co. League.  Kilcummin 2-10 Beaufort 3-13

Our senior team played Beaufort for the first time in a competitive fixture in over twenty years and came out on the wrong side of the result. The visitors were well worth their six point win and our large number of injuries and unavailable players is taking its toll. Two first half goals from Oscar O Connor and Richie O Connor and four points from Noel Duggan helped us trail by just one point at half time. After conceding an early goal and being reduced to fourteen players  early in the second half it was always going to be an uphill struggle after that . However credit to the players for their efforts and it took a number of great saves from the Beaufort goalie to prevent us getting back into this game. Our next games are away to Currow on July 1st and home to Ardfert on Wed July 19th.

Team: Kieran Fleming,  Mikey O Shea, Damien O Leary, Jamie O Donoghue, Donal Maher, Chris O Leary, Daniel Moynihan, Shane McSweeney, Kevin Gorman, Paul O Riordan,  Matthew Keane, Ian Devane, Oscar O Connor , Noel Duggan, Richie O Connor. Subs used Gavin O Connor, Tadgh Ryan and Tomas O Connor.

Listowel Emmets 1-11 Kilcummin 0-14

A first half that saw us apparently total at sea and trailing by five points at the break was followed by a half of total commitment, sharpness and ability to create scoring opportunities. Indeed with a bit more luck and clinical finishing we could have come away with two points instead of one.

In the end credit is due to every player and substitute who turned this performance around, no doubt aided by some inspirational words at half time from team management. Our next game is against Beaufort on Saturday at 7.30 pm in Kilcummin

Team: Kieran Fleming, Mikey O’Shea Donal Maher, Damien O’Leary, Jamie O’Donoghue, Chris O’Leary 0-2, Daniel Moynihan, Matthew Keane 0-1,  Shane Mc Sweeney 0-1, William Maher, Daniel O’Leary 0-1, Paul O’Riordan 0-1, Oscar O’Connor 0-1, Noel Duggan 0-6, Richie O’Connor, Ian Devane 0-1

Congratulations to Kevin McCarthy on making his championship debut with the Kerry Seniors in Ennis on Sunday last

Kilcummin 3-15 Listry 1-11

Kilcummin secured their second victory of the campaign at home to Listry on Saturday evening last. Two early goals from Daniel Moynihan and Oscar O Connor set us up nicely  early on. However an incident in the square that lead to our goalie getting black carded and a penalty given saw Listry come within a point of us after 15 minutes. However to our credit we put it behind us and with Noel Duggan in great scoring form and Damien O Leary Donal Maher and Chris O Leary controlling things in defence we lead at half time by 2-6 to 1-2 having played against the breeze.

The second half saw Listry rally briefly with two early points but with Matthew Keane in particular and Shane McSweeney controlling midfield we never looked like losing this one. In fairness to Listry they never gave up and with fellows like Danny Wrenn, Jimmy O Leary and Derry Aherne driving on they managed to score another seven points before the game was over. A great move saw Matthew Keane finish to the net for a third goal late in the game to round off a very competent display. Very heartening was the display of many of our younger players such as Paul O Riordan, Jamie O Donoghue and Oscar O Connor who complimented our more established members.

Senior Football Relegation Playoff Round One

Dingle 2-16 Kilcummin 0-10

Played in Killorglin on Sunday last Dingle proved much too strong for our lads despite a very determined effort. We were treated in the first half to some fine long range points from Philip Casey and Chris O Leary but still trailed at half time by 1- 8 to 0-6 with Kevin McCarthy kicking two frees.

In the second-half we added three further points from play courtesy of Paul O Riordan, Noel Duggan and Mikey O Shea. Brendan Kealy brought off some fine saves as Dingle threatened but Paul Geaney netted from a penalty to effectively kill off the game. Brendan actually saved Geaney’s first attempt but the referee ordered it to be retaken much to the annoyance of players and supporters.

Kilcummin’s players lost their discipline thereafter and received two red cards, a black and a number of yellows as their frustration grew. At the end Dingle well deserved their victory while we now face Kerins O Rahilly’s in a final effort to maintain our senior status for a 21st year.

Team: Brendan Kealy, Sean Brosnan, Damien O Leary, Donal Maher, Daniel O Leary, Chris O Leary, Mikey O Shea, Kevin Gorman, Daniel Moynihan Paul O Riordan Shane McSweeney, Philip Casey, Noel Duggan, Kevin McCarthy, Matthew Keane. Subs used William Maher, Jamie O Donoghue, and Richie O Connor.

Castleisland Mart Senior Club Championship

Our senior team travelled to Rathmore on Wednesday last and took part in an epic struggle with the hosts but unfortunately finished up losing by a single point. We were blitzed by a rampant Rathmore in the first twelve minutes and found ourselves trailing by 11 points after 15 mins. However the second quarter saw us take a grip at midfield and score some excellent points to finish the half trailing by 2-11 to 0-11.

After a shaky first few minutes of the second half when Rathmore missed a couple of good chances we regained control and edged closer to the opposition as the half progressed. A well taken penalty by Kieran Murphy and an inspirational point by Philip Casey saw us draw level with minutes remaining but with extra time looming Rathmore raided once more and kicked over the winning score. There was heartbreak at the final whistle for our players, mentors and supporters but little consolation for their heroic efforts.

We now face Dingle in a relegation battle on Sunday next @ 2pm in a venue as of yet to be decided.

GAA Golf Classic

Our annual fund raiser was a tremendous success on Saturday last in Killarney Golf Club. A course in excellent condition, a large number of teams and a great atmosphere made this an enjoyable occasion. We are greatly indebted to our many sponsors of teams and tee boxes, a hard working committee, Kilcummin Post Office and Rural Development Office Staff and our many loyal supporters who rallied to the call once again.

This year we were lucky to have the sponsorship of a Kilcummin /Australian link which raised enough money abroad to pay for the course on the day. Anthony, Patrick and Killian O’Sullivan, sons of Paddy Ballinamanagh, Kieran Lynch, Ronan O’Connor, Kevin McSweeney, Anthony O’Sullivan (Ulick) Inchicullane, Rosco Daley, David Healy and Sean O’Connor (Dunrine) are all living in Australia and were happy to support their home club.

Winners on the day were a Jimmy O’Brien’s Bar with a score of 61pts represented by Peter O Brien (9), Stephen Loughnane (18) and Michael Lynch (18). Team and tee boxes will appear on our website in the coming weeks.
