Firstly let us acknowledge the huge volume of unnoticed work that the ladies committee undertook to make this a success from acquiring generous sponsorship, advertising, making up the numerous hampers, decorating the Klub and selling tickets on the night. Secondly we should show our appreciation for the many, many sponsors who were so willing to play their part both for the spot prizes and door prizes and thirdly most importantly to the community at large who showed up on the night and supported this most deserving cause and the work of the ladies committee. Photos of the night are available on Facebook and website and the amount raised will be published later on with the handing over of the money.

Senior Football

Dr Crokes 0-12 Kilcummin 0-11

Our Senior team completed their season on Saturday last when they bowed out of the O’Donoghue Cup to Dr Crokes in Lewis Road by a single point. This was a very creditable performance and we even lead by six points early in the second-half.

However Dr Crokes introduced some influential substitutes and this combined with a number of spurned opportunities by ourselves saw the home team go forward to face Legion in the Semi-Final.

What has been at times a difficult season for players and management with injuries and absences their recent performances have given the supporters much hope for the year ahead and with dedication and a little bit of luck who knows where it might take us. Well done to players, management and supporters for your commitment to your club.

Team: Brendan Kealy (0-2) Mikey O Shea, Donal Maher, Damien O’Leary, Sean O’Leary, Chris O Leary, Dan Moynihan, Kevin Gorman, Shane McSweeney (0-1) Kevin McCarthy ( 0-3, 2F), Noel Duggan (0-2), Matt Keane, Daniel O’Leary (0-1), Philip Casey (0-2) Kelvin Teahan. Subs used Jamie O’Donoghue and Ian Devane.

Minor Football Kilcummin 3-11 Spa 0-18

Our Minors captured the East Kerry C Championship on Saturday last with a win over Spa in Spa.

Two goals from Conor McCarthy helped us to a six points lead at half-time before he retired injured before the break. We opened up an eight point lead after James Nagle scored our third halfway through the second-half but then had to endure a tremendous fight back from Spa. Indeed only for a resolute defence well marshalled by Sean O’Leary and a number of fine saves from Keith O’Leary we could have been overtaken.

As it was Spa came to within one point of us in injury time but Paul O Shea who was very influential scored a magnificent long range point to seal the victory. This was a great team effort from players and substitutes under the direction of Seanie, Alan and Mike and when Captain Sean O’Leary lifted the trophy it was a fitting reward for their efforts throughout the year.

Team: Keith O’Leary, James Nagle, Cathal Healy, Chris Moynihan, Sean O’Leary, Sean Moynihan, Cormac O’Connor, Niall Daly, Eoin Daly, Tomas O’Connor, Lorcan O’Connor, Paul O’Shea, Conor McCarthy.

Subs Used: Philip O’Leary, Darragh Cronin, Danny Cronin, Mike Brosnan Panel: Conor O’Leary, John C O’Shea, Dan Keane, Darragh Lehane, Nathan McCarthy, Darragh Brosnan, Conn Fleming, Dave Gleeson and Ivor Moynihan

Development Launch

Minister Brendan Griffin officially launched the club’s Development and Fundraising drive on Friday night last. In front of a large attendance which included politicians from all parties he promised to support this venture to the best of his power and ability. Kerry GAA TV filmed the event and representatives from the senior citizens group as well as county players were interviewed. It is available on Facebook to view so please share and tag to people abroad. A word of thanks to the members who attended and helped to make it a success.

Senior Football Club Championship Playoff

Kilcummin 1-10 Kerins O’Rahillys 2-12

We left Austin Stack Park on Sunday last with a mixture of emotions, disappointed at losing our senior status, mystified and frustrated at some decisions. However the overriding feeling was one of great pride. Our players and mentors gave it everything and despite a number of injuries we left with our heads held high after a very competitive and entertaining game. It brings to an end a 20 year journey as a senior club that saw us reach a Senior County Championship final in 2002, a Semi-Final and Replay in 2007 along with a Munster Senior Club Semi-Final the same year and a Minor County Championship title in 2010.

Sunday’s game saw us play some of our best football of the year and at half-time both sides had scored 1-4 apiece. Kevin McCarthy finished sublimely to the net after an outstanding catch and pass from Kevin Gorman who had a fine game throughout. Brendan Kealy had opened the scoring with a long range free, Matt Keane and Noel Duggan accounting for the other scores. A quick start to the second-half saw Matt Keane and Brendan Kealy add further points but O’Rahillys matched us score for score. Despite some powerful defending and further scores courtesy of Noel Duggan and Kevin McCarthy we found ourselves trailing by two points with two minutes left.

However following a free awarded to O’Rahillys that left most spectators scratching their heads to put it mildly, the ball ended up in the net to put a five point margin between the teams and a flattering scoreline for the winners. Our next game is against Dr Crokes in the O’Donoghue Cup scheduled for Saturday week November 4th in Lewis Road.

Team: Brendan Kealy (0-2, 1 ‘45’, 1f), Damien O’Leary, Donal Maher, Daniel Moynihan, Sean O’Leary, Chris O’Leary, Mikey O’Shea, Kelvin Teahan, Kevin Gorman, Matt Keane (0-3), Kevin McCarthy (1-3), Noel Duggan (0-2), Oscar O’Connor, Shane McSweeney, Philip Casey. Subs used Ian Devane and Daniel O’Leary

Development Project & Fundraiser Launch: We are delighted to announce Mr. Brendan Griffin, Minister of State for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport will officially launch Kilcummin GAA’s Development Project and Development Fundraiser on Friday October 27th at 9pm in Kilcummin GAA clubhouse. This is an open invitation to everyone in the community members and non-members alike. It presents the ideal opportunity to get an update on progress so far and to inspect the future plans for the clubs facilities which will enhance the lives of the entire community.

MD O’Shea East Kerry U14 Championship –Division 2 Final Kilcummin 3-23 Firies 2-21

Posted by donal | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 10-10-2017

Well done to the Kilcummin U14 footballers who claimed the EK Division 2 championship title on Sunday evening last when they overcame Firies in a very well contested final in Fitzgerald Stadium. Played in dry conditions, Kilcummin played against a very noticeable breeze in the first half but they played their best football in this period. Defending stoutly, we traded points with the opposition early on but, moving the ball swiftly with some excellent kick-passing, Kilcummin were soon into their stride to open up a lead which was maintained to the end. The three goals scored during this half would ultimately prove decisive.

The half time scoreline of 3-8 to 0-12 reflected Kilcummin’s advantage after half an hour and, assisted by the breeze, we opened brightly in the second half to push a further few points ahead. However, Firies were always going to stage a comeback and when they scored their second goal from distance with ten minutes remaining, the deficit was down to five points. To their credit, Kilcummin responded and the sides traded a few points from there to the finish.

Kilcummin U14 EK Div 2 Champions - Team Picture

This success, allied to the earlier Division 2 league final win over Dr Crokes back in July, represents a fine season’s work for this very dedicated bunch of players. They commenced outdoor training back in early February and competed in Division 1 of the County League where they reached the semi final stage. They also reached the semi-finals of the Feile competition during the summer and so can now take a well-deserved break after a long season.

Finally, we wish Turlough O’Connor a speedy recovery from the broken finger which sadly caused him to miss out on last Sunday’s final.

TEAM: Jaded Tynan; Cathal Brosnan, Killian O’Brien, Cian Murphy; Andrew Lowin, Dara O’Callaghan, Oran Dwyer; Jack McClain (0-3) & Colm Kelliher; Colin O’Leary (0-2), Cian Foley (1-6); Adam O’Sullivan (0-2); Evan O’Sullivan (2-6), Mark O’Shea (0-3) & Micheál Sweeney (0-1)

SUBS: Gearoid Mulvihill for Oran Dwyer (injured) H/T, Turlough O’Connor, Oisin O’Leary, Kirill Healy, Robbie Moynihan, Daniel Horgan, Kyle O’Connor Coffey, Patrick Daly & Luke Ryan.

MENTORS: James Foley, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, John Purcell & Michael O’Callaghan

O’Donoghue Cup

Listry 0-13 Kilcummin 2-20

Our seniors qualified to play Dr Crokes in the Quarter-Finals courtesy of this First Round victory over a Listry team that were short a number of their influential players. However our players went about their task from the off and put a number of good moves together that resulted in some fine scores. Goals from Kieran Murphy (first-half) and Kevin Gorman (second-half) complimented good point taking throughout. Sean O’Leary making his senior debut showed his class throughout, Kieran Murphy was a major influence while Daniel O Leary, Noel Duggan and Kevin McCarthy also impressed.

Team: Brendan Kealy, Damien O Leary, Donal Maher, Daniel Moynihan, Sean O’Leary, Chris O’Leary, Mikey O’Shea, Kieran Murphy, Kevin Gorman, Matt Keane, Kevin McCarthy, Noel Duggan, Oscar O’Connor, Shane McSweeney, Daniel O’Leary Subs used: Kelvin Teahan, William Maher, Ian Devane and Thomas O’Connor.

We now await this weekend’s County Championship Semi-Final between Kerins O’Rahillys and South Kerry to determine our next fixture. If O’Rahillys lose we play them in a relegation play-off as a curtain raiser to the County Final but if they win we are automatically relegated to Intermediate status for 2018.

Under 14 East Kerry Division 2 Champions

Posted by donal | Posted in JUVENILE, Uncategorized | Posted on 04-08-2017

Well done to the Kilcummin U14 team who turned in a fantastic performance in Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday 22nd July to record a 5-18 to 5-13 win over Dr. Crokes in the East Kerry Division 2 league final. On a dry evening with perfect conditions, the standard of football was high with many of our young team making their stadium debut.

Kilcummin opened brightly and kicked five excellent points on the trot. However, after recording a few wides, Crokes replied with 1-1. The sides swapped goals but Kilcummin finished the half in style to head to the dressing room with a well-deserved lead of 3-13 to 2-7. That lead was reduced dramatically on the restart with Crokes scoring two quick goals, but again our boys responded and found the net at the other end. Kilcummin then held the edge from there to the end, and playing some great free-flowing football they went on a record a deserved five point win.
